Stop Taking Our Children: Abolish ICE, the Cops, & the Family Police

This resource was created by Movement for Family Power, Black Alliance for Just Immigration, and the Advancement Project.

There is growing understanding that we cannot abolish ICE without abolishing the police. Less understood is that we cannot achieve either without also abolishing the family policing system—also known as the child “welfare” or the foster “care” system.

These three systems interlock in one family separation web, posing a unique threat to the over 5 million Black immigrants who are disproportionately targeted at the hands of cops, ICE, and the family police.

Building on Black Alliance for Just Immigration’s Stop Taking Our People (STOP) narrative framework, this issue brief and fact sheet provide an overview of how this family separation web operates to take our children and offer visions toward building an intersectional movement to end forced family separation.

They are taking our children, but we won’t stop fighting to get them back.
