Medical Professional Reports and Child Welfare System Infant Investigations

Rates of child welfare investigations of infants stemming from medical professional reports have increased dramatically over the past decade with persistent and notable racial inequities in these investigations. This notable increase may be related, in part, to the 2016 federal Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act, as states and hospitals updated reporting policies to comply with new regulations, something to explore in future research.
