Growing Grassroots: Grant Guide for Organizations Fighting for Families

This resource was created by Movement for Family Power. 

Grassroots and directly impacted-led organizations are moving critical work, often with little to no resources. That’s why Movement for Family Power launched Growing Grassroots: Grant Guide for Organizations Fighting for Families, intended to help grant newbies navigate the funding landscape.

This guide is a follow-up to Sowing Seeds, our capacity-building offerings we rolled out in 2024 and 2025. Inside, you will find: 

• The fundamentals of how foundation funding works

• Tips for finding and writing grants and preparing your organization beforehand

• Advice for building relationships with funders

• Links to free tools and templates to help track and manage grant fundraising

We hope this guide makes the grant process more accessible. And if you're a donor or foundation partner, we hope it inspires deeper investment in this critically underfunded ecosystem– most especially for Black and directly impacted-led organizations on the frontlines.
