Dr. Rupi Legha (she/her)

Advisory Board Member

Dr. Rupi Legha is a double board-certified psychiatrist in adult and child & adolescent psychiatry, an honors graduate of Harvard Medical School, and the founder and president of The Antiracist MD—a visionary movement that brings together clinical care, teaching, public scholarship, and policy advocacy to advance racial justice in mental health care and to reimagine it as a truly caring, healing practice.

Through this platform, Dr. Legha provides trauma-informed, person-centered psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and adults across multiple states. She also leads the Antiracism in Mental Health Fellowship, a first-of-its-kind educational program training healthcare providers to challenge systemic inequities and build liberatory models of care.

Her work spans clinical practice, legislative reform, public speaking, and scholarly writing. Her research and publications expose how racism shows up in diagnosis, documentation, and mandated reporting—particularly the racialized overdiagnosis of behavioral disorders in Black and brown children.

Dr. Legha frequently lectures and consults across the country, equipping providers, systems, and communities with the tools to reimagine mental health care that protects families, resists carceral responses, and centers collective healing. Her work is grounded in the belief that reversing deadly health inequities—such as police killings during mental health crises and preventable maternal deaths—requires transforming how providers are trained and holding institutions accountable to a new standard of care.
