This event is hosted by Interrupting Criminalization.
On October 15 at 3-4 PM ET, we invite you to join us for an virtual discussion of how to advance narratives that undermine authoritarianism and increase solidarity, featuring IC co-founder Andrea J. Ritchie, Abolition Journalism Fellow Lewis Raven Wallace, and author Dean Spade.
We are currently experiencing a rapid expansion in the criminalization of solidarity, and the criminalization of targeted groups including migrants, trans people, Black people, Palestinians, and solidarity activists. How can media and organizers push back against criminalizing narratives through our story choice, framing, and language?
We’ll be talking criminalization, copaganda, narratives of solidarity—and pushing back/countering the criminalizing narratives of the state—during this one-hour webinar, as well as discussing and presenting the key questions and framing in a few resources—including a *NEW* online resource that we’ll be unveiling for journalists who want to tell stories that don’t reinforce cop/fed narratives that are fueling and manufacturing consent for the mounting authoritarianism we’re experiencing.
This session is geared toward media, journalists, and movement communicators, but open to all!
