Ashley Albert (she/her)
Storyteller in Residence
Ashley Albert is a Storyteller in Residence at Movement for Family Power, where she supports storytelling projects, narrative campaigns, and political education.
A formerly incarcerated woman and a parent impacted by the family policing system, Ashley is committed to sharing her experiences to help others achieve freedom and redefine their power from within. In 2025, Ashley founded Stolen Children’s Month, a global narrative campaign calling for the abolition of all systems that steal children and separate families, including the family policing, adoption, and foster industries; the ICE detention and deportation machine; and the prison-industrial complex. Alongside her work at MFP, Ashley is a Peer Support Advisory Group Member at the Washington State Health Care Authority, a steering committee member for the National Repeal ASFA campaign, a board member of JMACforFamilies, and a member of the Office of Behavioral Health Advisory Council.
Previously, Ashley was the Parent Engagement Coordinator for Washington State Parents 4 Parents and facilitated the Washington State Parent Advocacy Committee. In partnership with the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Ashley co-authored a storytelling guide to support survivors of domestic violence and family policing in sharing their experiences.
Ashley has completed a number of trainings and earned a variety of certifications to support policymakers, social workers, and families. She earned her peer specialist certification through the Washington State Health Care Authority; completed Collective Justice’s Heal 2 Action program for system-impacted organizers; and received training in transformative and restorative justice principles and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
